The Challenge
The Managing Director for APAC had built her own Executive Leadership Team, with many of the leaders being promoted newly into this senior regional leadership role.
She wanted to ensure that her most capable leaders were considering their future and developing with the intent to grow in the company and aspire to take over the role of regional MD at some stage. The seven leaders were based across APAC, and although the ELT conversed in English, not all the leaders were native English speakers.
Each leader needed different focus areas. The company offered an amazing internal leadership development programme, and so the MD wanted to consider something more personalised for each leader in addition to this programme. She had experienced the value of executive coaching and enlisted JET to offer this to each leader.
Coaching
The Solution
JET Delivers worked with the MD to identify the specific development areas for each leader and recommended a coaching journey for each leader that would take approximately 8 months.
As JET works with 25 coaches in the region, we were able to offer an individual coach for each leader. Each coach was specifically chosen for each leader based on the leader’s development needs, personality, learning style and native language.
Each leader met with their coach for an initial discussion (called a chemistry check) to confirm there was rapport between them and whether each party felt they could work together for this intense, individualised transformational journey. The CEO of JET also coached some of the leaders.
The Coaching Journey
- Harrison Assessment Paradox Report (HA) to provide additional information on the coachee’s leadership competencies
- Stakeholder meeting between coach and coachee's manager
- 90-min Objective setting session between coach and coachee (including information from the HA and manager’s meeting)
- 3 x 90-min Coaching sessions between coach and coachee
- 30-min Checkpoint meeting between coach, coachee and manager
- 3 x 90-min Coaching sessions between coach and coachee
- 30-min Final review meeting between coach, coachee and manager

The Result
Each member of the ELT were able to:
- Achieve their own development goals and thrive as more confident, effective senior leaders
- Manage their own team more effectively and achieve greater results
- Develop a greater understanding of each other and achieved more as a leadership team
- Overcome adversity of working in a challenging environment and were better equipped to achieve results in partnership with their clients
- Become a stronger voice in the global team
This all supported the APAC business to grow and some of the leaders were promoted as well. As the ELT expanded and leaders changed, the MD continued to offer the new ELT members executive coaching through JET since she truly believed it was making a positive impact on each leader as well as the ELT overall.
She also offered coaching to 15 high-potential performers at the next level down to prepare them for their upward leadership journey. JET supported these coaching journeys in the same way as well.
